  15. This section lists some known problems with Disinfectant. Many of these
  16.  
  17. problems involve incompatibilities with older versions of other software.
  18.

  21. You cannot use the FinderΓÇÖs Get Info command to change DisinfectantΓÇÖs
  22.  
  23. memory size. If you try this under System 7, you will not get an error
  24.  
  25. message, but the memory size will not be changed. If you try this under
  26.  
  27. System 6, you will get the following alert from the Finder: ΓÇ£The
  28.  
  29. Application Memory Size for ΓÇÿDisinfectantΓÇÖ could not be saved (-199).ΓÇ¥

  35. If you have a Rodime Cobra disk drive, make certain that you are using
  36.  
  37. version 1.1.3 or later of the Cobra disk driver. Earlier versions of the
  38.  
  39. Cobra driver contained an error which caused problems with Disinfectant.

  43. Both the Disinfectant program and the Disinfectant INIT are incompatible
  44.  
  45. with versions of ΓÇ£GregΓÇÖs ButtonsΓÇ¥ earlier than 1.5. The incompatibility
  46.  
  47. can cause crashes and other problems. If you use GregΓÇÖs Buttons, make
  48.  
  49. certain you have version 1.5 or later.

  53. The Disinfectant INIT is incompatible with versions of Robert MathewΓÇÖs
  54.  
  55. ΓÇ£Speed BeepΓÇ¥ earlier than version 2.0.6. The incompatibility causes
  56.  
  57. Speed Beep to refuse to work. If you use Speed Beep, make certain you
  58.  
  59. have version 2.0.6 or later.

  63. The Disinfectant INIT is incompatible with versions of MicroseedΓÇÖs
  64.  
  65. INITPicker earlier than version 2.0. The earlier versions of INITPicker did
  66.  
  67. not properly deal with INITs whose names begin with a special character.

  69. If you use INITPicker, check to make certain that you have version 2.0 or
  70.  
  71. later.

  75. The Disinfectant about box plays a tune. On some Mac models with some
  76.  
  77. versions of the Apple system software, the tune is not played correctly
  78.  
  79. (the timing between notes is not correct). There is nothing we can do
  80.  
  81. about this problem.

  85. Disinfectant will not detect infected files if they are part of a StuffIt,
  86.  
  87. Compact Pro, or other kind of archive, if they have been converted to a
  88.  
  89. text file with BinHex, if they have been compressed with PackIt, or if
  90.  
  91. they have been compressed, converted or archived by some similar
  92.  
  93. utility. If you have such files and want to make certain they do not contain
  94.  
  95. infections, you must unpack them and check the unpacked files.

  99. Disinfectant does, however, work properly with automatic disk
  100.  
  101. compression utilities like Disk Doubler and AutoDoubler. With these kind of
  102.  
  103. utilities, files are automatically decompressed when programs access
  104.  
  105. them.

  109. Disinfectant cannot be used to check the backup floppy disks or tapes
  110.  
  111. produced by most of the various hard disk backup utility programs. These
  112.  
  113. programs usually write their backups in a special format which is not
  114.  
  115. recognized by Disinfectant. If you suspect that your backups are infected,
  116.  
  117. we recommend that you first disinfect all of your other disks (hard drives
  118.  
  119. and floppies), then do a new full backup, and finally erase (reformat) all
  120.  
  121. of your remaining suspect backup floppies.
